Christian Schoellauf, of New Haven, was stopped around 9:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 4, while driving a 2013 335xi BMW southbound on Danbury Road (Route 7) after an officer saw him swerve into the oncoming lane at least three times, said the Wilton Police Department.

When stopped, the officer allegedly smelled an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. After initially saying he didn't drink, Schoellauf told the officer he had two beers at a friend's house in Danbury, police said.

When he was asked to perform the field sobriety tests, he stopped in the middle and told officers they, "knew he was drunk, so what's the point," police said.

Schoellauf was charged with failure to drive right and DUI. A blood-alcohol test showed he was driving at .02719, or three times over the legal limit.

He was released after posting $260 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 15.
